Lowe Alpine Mourne Marathon
16th-17th September 2006

It was 'Misson Accomplished' by Brian and his team mate Diarmaid Moynihan in the Lowe Alpine Mourne Marathon last weekend, 16th and 17th Sept. From the 141 teams that set out on Sat morning, 114 made it back to Tollymore forest Co.Down on Sunday afternoon. At the overnight camp the two guys were 30th fastest team and improved on that to finish 26th overall. It was a fantastic achievement on a personal level and an even greater one to have raised well over £2000 for the Macmillan childrens cancer nurses in the RVH Belfast.

The lads are still nursing a few blisters and one seriously sunburnt head, but the webpage www.justgiving.com/brianflook will continue accepting donations until it expires on 16/11/2006.

Both Brian and Diarmaid want to say the hugest THANK YOU to all of you who got involved, they had summer sunshine all weekend and were carried through the hardest moments on a wave of your love and support. A special word of thanks also goes out to Dustin Clarke of www.mountainhardware.com who sponsored the boys with high performance mountainhardware jackets and aerodynamic running tops so they not only did the business, they looked it too!

So it's back to fluting and uillean piping.......for now!!

Summer Roundup 2006
Words and photos submitted by Ed Boyd
We've had the good fortune to be invited to some great new places this summer. Early July saw us hop over to Canada for two excellent festivals, Winnipeg Folk Fest and Québec's Festival d'été.

They're really into workshops at the Canadian festivals, much to his terror Ed had to take part, and compere, the "all guitar no voice" one alongside such luminaries as Bruce Cockburn (no you don't pronounce it like that..), Marc Ribot, famous for his work with Tom Waits, and the genial Morten Høirup from Denmark. The group workshop was strangely entitled "It is easy being green" and we were joined by Haugaard and Høirup and the Cottars.

As you can see from this photo, getting to play on the main stage in front of nearly 20000 was a thrill..

If you look at Lieve's photo of our gig at the mega St Chartier festival in central France, which is on our myspace page, you'll get an idea of the fab setting and lighting for this event. We were driven to Batz-sur-Mer in southern Brittany by Noémie and Sylvain through lovely fields of sunflowers.
Once we got there, we had a lovely time swimming in the sea. Ed celebrated his birthday there too.

Early August took us to Sidmouth, always a pleasing experience, then to Fairport Convention's Cropredy, which, somewhat like Winnipeg, involved playing on a big stage in front of loads of people. Great fun.
We went to deepest Suffolk the following day to a very beautiful venue called Snape Maltings, which was Benjamin Britten's vision. Our concert was part of the Proms there and we loved playing in this amazing building.
Before their sojourn to Cambridgeshire, Brian and Ed were able to discover the charms of nearby Aldeburgh.
